An article “Languages are not Ecosystems” by Fernando Borretti which I found on Lobsters prompted me to formulate my thoughts on a very related matter into what I shall call The Ecosystem Paradox – an informal software law/conjecture which can be stated as:
To be widely adopted, a technology needs an ecosystem which can only be formed when the technology is widely adopted.
As far as I’m aware, this observation has not been given a proper label (and if it has, I’d love to learn it), so here it is.
